The Elf is currently being developed using foundation cats from Sphynx and American Curl breeds.
Each of these two breeds have a single trait that makes them distinct from all other breeds. The Elf
combines these traits to create a unique breed of cat that is different from each of the contributing
foundation breeds. These two traits are independent of each other and when combined pose no harm
to the health and well-being of the new breed Elf.
The Elf by nature is very people-oriented, faithful affectionate soul mates, they are extremely
inquisitive and love to be the center of attention. They perform silly antics for your entertainment.
They have a "look at me" attitude. They prefer human attention but enjoy the company of dogs or
other cats. Like the Sphynx they have an abundance of energy and mischief and are always with you,
on you or showing off for you.
GENERAL: Elf is a medium to large size cat with sturdy boning and good muscle development and
should have a bit of a belly as if they just finished a meal. The most distinctive feature of this cat is
it's appearance of hairlessness and curled ears.
HEAD: The head is slightly longer than it is wide with prominent
cheekbones and a distinctive whisker break with prominent whisker pads. The skull is slightly
rounded with a flat plane in front of the ears. The nose is straight.
CHEEKS / CHEEKBONES: Prominent, rounded cheekbones
which define the eyes and form a curve above the whisker break.
MUZZLE / CHIN: Whisker break with prominent whisker pads. Chin is firm, in line with nose and
upper lip.
EARS: The Elf's ears are moderately large, wide at the base and open, curving back in a smooth arc
when viewed from the front and rear. Curl minimum of 90 degree arc, not to exceed 180 degrees.
Firm cartilage from ear base to at least 1/3 height. When viewed from the front, the outer base of the
ear should begin at the level of the eye, neither low set nor on top of the head. The interior of the ears
is naturally without furnishings.
When Elf's are alert ears swiveled toward front, line following curve of ear through tips should point
to center base of skull.
EYES: The Elf's eyes are shaped as a walnut, oval on top and round on the bottom. Placement should
be at a slight angle between base of ear and tip of nose wide set with a minimum of one eye width
apart. Eye color immaterial.
BODY: The body is medium in length, hard and muscular with broad rounded chest and full round
abdomen. The rump is well rounded and muscular. Back line rises just behind the shoulder blades to
accommodate longer back legs when standing.
NECK: The Elf's neck is medium in length, rounded, well muscled, with a slight arc. Allowances to
be made for heavy musculature in adult males.
LEGS / FEET: Elf legs are medium in proportion to the body. They are sturdy and well muscled
with rear legs being slightly longer then the front. Paws are oval with well knuckled toes The paw
pads are thick, giving the appearance of walking on cushions.
TAIL: The Elf tail is slender, flexible and long while maintaining
proportion to body length. Whip-like, tapering to a fine point.
COAT/SKIN: The appearance of this cat is one of hairlessness.
Short, fine hair may be present on the feet, outer edges of the ears, the nose, the tail and the scrotum.
The remainder of the body can range from completely hairless to a covering of down-like fur whose
length does not interfere with the appearance of hairlessness. This coat/skin texture
creates a feeling of resistance when stroking the cat. Wrinkled skin is desirable, particularly around
the muzzle, between the ears, and around the shoulders. There are usually no whiskers but if
whiskers are present they are short and sparse.
COLOR: The color of the Elf and pattern are difficult to distinguish
and should not affect the judging of the cat.
PERMISSIBLE OUT CROSSES: Sphynx , American Curl and
Domestic Short Hair.
PENALIZE: Hair other than described. Delicate or frail appearance. Thin abdomen, thin rump or
narrow chest. Bowed front legs. Should not resemble the Oriental body type. Ears, abrupt change of
direction without smooth curve; pinch, horizontal or vertical crimp; interior surface which appears
corrugated.
DISQUALIFY: Kinked or abnormal tail. Structural abnormalities.
Extreme curl in adult where tip of ear touches back of ear or head. Ears that are straight, severely
mismatched, thick or having inflexible tips. Lack of firm cartilage in base of ear.
